About Me
You've reached the Internet home of Loyd McIntosh, freelance writer, sometime editor, and halfway decent graphic designer living and working from Pell City, Alabama.
I currently write for a handful of magazines throughout Alabama, including Portico, a lifestyle magazine covering Birmingham and surrounding area, and Thicket, a new statewide magazine that debuted in February 2008.
I've also written for other magazines and newspapers including The Birmingham News, Birmingham Magazine, Mental Floss, Birmingham Weekly, and others. I currently work full time as the marketing manager for the Birmingham Metropolitan YMCA, developing advertising campaigns, handling media requests, and editing Y Life Birmingham, a bi-monthly lifestyle magazine for the members of the Birmingham YMCA.
Prior to coming to the YMCA, I was a reporter and sports writer for serveral newspapers around the southest including The Clanton Advertiser (Clanton, Alabama), The Western Star (Bessemer, Alabama), The Daily Home (Talladega, Alabama), and The News-Enterprise (Elizabethtown, Kentucky).
I currently live in Pell City with my wife, Elizabeth, and my two daughters, Emily Grace and Lily.
